Oregano has a delicate mild aroma similar to marjoram and thyme. It has a fresh and pleasant taste, pleasant and somewhat tart taste.
It goes well with tomatoes and is often used in pizza and pasta sauces, in spicy mixtures for pate, liver or meat fillings, and homemade sausages.
Oregano is added to fried, stewed and baked meats, sauces and gravies.
Oregano contains up to 0.5% essential oil, cymene, carvacrol, a significant amount of tannins. The essential oil contains 16% thymol. The leaves and flowers of the plant contain ascorbic acid, and the letter also contains up to 29% fatty oil.
